Carbohydrates are one of the primary sources you fuel your body with. Meaning energy levels, metabolic rate and your seratonin ( mood ) all increases.
Eating faster acting carbs ( sugar/ fruits ) as opposed to slower digesting ones ( oats / wholegrains ) can cause spikes in your Insulin due to signaling from the Hypothalamus and also cause drops in blood sugars.
A Satiety hormone, Leptin which informs the body when it has reached a state of satisfaction secretes during bouts of eating .
This can cause issues if over consumption of food occurs or consistent intake of higher glycemic carb choices are taken in.
The body becomes Leptin resistant and these important signals cannot be transmitted, thus resulting in the ‘ food coma ‘ and weight gain.
Simple over eating of the wrong foods and portion control is the real problem IMO not Carbs or insulin, they’re just doing their jobs as they have done since the dawn of time!
My simple tips 🤓
*Ensure a good amount of fibrous vegetables and selection of grains into your diet to maintain digestive order and regulate glucose levels.
*Control your portion sizes if you are trying to lose weight, your liver can only take so much before excess stores to fat.
*Avoid regular intake of higher GI foods ( sugar based ) unless used in the right constraints and around training.
